 0742: Malang Cissokho performing on the Canary Islands, Spain, in 1981. Senegalese top guitarist Badou Ndiaye introduced Hasse to Malang during Hasse´s first visit to Dakar in spring 1982. Malang joined Hasse Walli & Asamaan in Dakar in May 1988, and performed with them at Club RK 1, and then participated in the band's first tour of Finland that summer. A bonus track live recording with Malang and Asamaan can be found on "The Best of Hasse Walli & Asamaan" (HCD - 06), recorded at RK 1.
Malang later settled down in Helsinki, and joined the famous J.Karjalainen´s Electric Sauna for several years. They had a huge hit called Missä on Väinö, which was based on an African hi-life rhythm. Malang played Kora and sang in Manding at the end of the song, and thus brought an authentic feel to the beat. |
